The Lethbridge Curling Club Acquires New 10 Year Lease Agreement
LETHBRIDGE – Along with an impressive new curling facility at the ATB Centre, the Lethbridge Curling Club now has a new 10 year lease agreement with the City of Lethbridge. City Council today approved the new agreement lasting until December 31, 2026.
The shortened 2016 season will see the Curling Club pay a lease fee of $50,850, $114,300 in 2017 and $119,300 in 2018. The numbers will be reviewed annually to determine the actual costs of operating the facility and this information will be used to inform the new lease fee amounts moving forward. These yearly costs are up slightly from 2015/16 when the Curling Club paid $96,976 for their portion of the utility costs at the Civic Arena.
“Because this is a new venture for both the City of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Curling Club, moving to a lease fee gives financial certainty in the first few years,” says Mayor Chris Spearman. “Ultimately, both the City and the Curling Club will work towards a lease fee that will provide 100 per cent cost recovery for operational expenses.”
The new agreement will see the Curling Club provide year round food and beverage services at the new ATB Centre during regular business hours and during special events hosted at the Curling Club or the ice arenas.
