Blood Tribe member invested into Alberta Order of Excellence with 7 others
EDMONTON – The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta invested eight new members into the Alberta Order of Excellence on Wednesday and one of those is a local First Nation educator, author and advisor.
Leroy Little Bear, JD, DAS (hon), LLD (hon), is a globally renowned scholar who has been involved in some of the most important political achievements for Indigenous peoples around the world.
Born on the Blood Reserve, Little Bear went on to study at the University of Lethbridge and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1971. As he worked on his degree, Little Bear used his connection with the Blood Tribe to help create the university’s Native American Studies program, which became one of the first of its kind in Canada
Scholarly endeavors did not end at the U-of-L, as Little Bear went on to acquire a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1975.
