LETHBRIDGE – A 20-year old man, accused in the vicious assault on a Lethbridge woman last month, will be back in court November 3.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court Thursday (Oct. 20) morning, it was confirmed that defence lawyer Greg White will handle the case for Denzel Dre Colton Bird.

White explained that they would need time to prepare for a show cause (bail) hearing, and asked for the case to be adjourned to the November date.

Bird faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and break and enter.

The latest post on the Facebook page that has been providing updates on the victim – who remains in a Calgary hospital – states that she remains in a medically induced coma and is still impacted by swelling on her brain. However, she is breathing on her own.

According to the police investigation, the 25-year-old woman was walking to work when she was struck with a weapon, dragged into the alley off 6 Avenue South and sexually assaulted on the morning of September 30. They also noted that the victim and the accused do not know each other and that this was a random attack.
