Cancer Survivor Breast Reconstruction Awareness Event In Medicine Hat

Nov 5, 2016 | 7:47 AM

MEDICINE HAT – Breast cancer survivors, those in treatment and those at risk of the disease can attend a Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA) event in Medicine Hat.

The free event runs Nov. 5th, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, 666 5 Ave. S.W., in the Lecture Theatre on the third level.

BRA Day events include:
– Surgeon-led discussions about type, timing risk and benefits and recovery of reconstruction.
– A friend and family lounge for those who journey with a woman considering or undergoing breast reconstruction to share experiences, ask questions and recieve support.
-Displays on various aspects of the surgical experience.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women; however, only one in 10 will opt for breast reconstruction surgery, a fully-insured medical procedure in Canada.

BRA Day works to connect women and their families with Canadian leaders in breast reconstruction and promotes education about, and awareness of, life after breast cancer.

This is the first time the event will be hosted in South Zone; BRA Day events were also held last month in Calgary and Edmonton.
