Coaldale & Picture Butte Respond to Large Grass Fire

LETHBRIDGE – Around 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 7, Coaldale & District Emergency Services responded to a grass fire in the coulees east of Highway 845, south of the Old Man River.
Coaldale Interm Chief Gary Gettman said that the department took precaution against the approximately five acre fire and called on the assistance of the Picture Buttee Fire Department.
“As the fire spread up the coulees, we had to use fire fighting brooms and any water that they could get at.”
The fire took three hours to extinguish, but the starting point and cause is unknown. Fire crews continue to investigate.
