Local Constable humbled after receiving recognition for life-saving actions

LETHBRIDGE – Congratulations were in order at Wednesday’s (Nov. 30) Lethbridge Police Commission meeting for Constable Marco Pagliericci.

He received a Commendation from Chief Rob Davis after recently saving someone from overdosing on fentanyl.

Pagliericci recounted that the individual was turning blue and wasn’t breathing when he showed up on the scene. He quickly sprung into action, noting that it wasn’t “a matter of feelings, it was a matter that something was happening here and something needed to get done.”

The person stopped breathing twice while he was there. Pagliericci started CPR and was able to keep them breathing long enough for EMS to show up with the proper injections.

He says this really goes to show the unfortunate issue the drug has caused across Lethbridge and surrounding areas.

“There is people dying of it, we know that. We do get calls on a daily basis of people who are in a stressful situation, or a critical situation, and it’s always basically because of the fentanyl or whatever is in the fentanyl.”

While he was humbled by the recognition, Pagliericci was sure to show his appreciation to Chief Davis, who he feels does a great job of thanking his fellow officers.

“Every member of my organization, and every police officer that I’ve known over my career… When they put the uniform on they go out there to perform a duty. That’s to protect and save the lives of people,” he said.

“We do this without questioning. We do it because that’s what we want to do. We don’t think twice about it, we just do it.”
