Hurricanes edge Pats 5-4 in OT

The home team was first on the board courtesy of Tanner Nagel who got back-up from Jadon Joseph and Zane Franklin. Then, at the 13 minute mark, Ryan Bowen had the team up two nothing on a power play goal assisted by Jordy Bellerive and Tyler Wong.

The early lead for the Canes was hammered down 30 seconds later as the Pats’ Sam Steel planted one through the pipes.  Then, 40 seconds before the end of the first, Steel again found the back of the net, to even the score at two apiece.

Tyler Wong opened the second frame by pulling the Canes into the lead again. After a succession of penalties for tripping and holding, Jordy Bellerive had the Canes up 4-2. The period ended with a penalty to the Pats for too many men on the ice.

The visitors hit the ice hungry in the third, prompting Regina’s Adam Brooks to lob one in at the five minute mark, and Jake Leschyshyn tied the game half way through the period. At the buzzer, the game headed to overtime.

Back on the ice, it didn’t take long for the Canes to pull out another win, as Brennan Menell netted the game winner three minutes in, assisted by Ryan Bowen and Tyler Wong.

The Pats, at 25-2-5-0, outshot the Canes 46-33. The Hurricanes, over .500 at 15-11-2-2, host Medicine Hat on Friday night.
