LETHBRIDGE – Inclusivity will be the main focus for the local Canadian Municipalities against Racism and Discrimination (CMARD) committee’s International Day for Human Rights event.

On Saturday, Dec. 10 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. information booths, exhibits and live entertainment outlining diversity initiatives in Lethbridge will be set up in the City Hall Foyer.

Roy Pogorzelski CMARD inclusion consultant explained since his outreach work began in Lethbridge in 2009 he has noticed positive changes in inclusion policy and activism and he hopes that this year’s event furthers that work.

“The day will provide opportunities to engage and also draw people to our Facebook page where we post events and information on what we are doing to build a welcoming community in Lethbridge,” he said.

Pogorzelski noted that organizers decided to go back to the 2014 event structure where the committee produced an international dancing for human rights video and rallied 300-400 community members to participate.

“At the event itself we are releasing a community lib-dub video to ‘Where is the Love’ by The Black Eyed Peas. We have also taken our Living Logo, the seven morph characters in the week leading up to the event around to different businesses handing out flyers about the day.”

December 10th was marked International Day of Human as it commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Canadian John Humphrey played an important role in the signing as a major author of the first draft of the declaration.
