LETHBRIDGE – The 13 game point streak the Lethbridge Hurricanes had been riding for the better part of a month came to an end Friday (Dec. 16) night in Edmonton, as the Canes fell 4-3 to the Oil Kings.

The loss was also the second in a row for the club, which now has 11 days off as they enter their Christmas break.

The Oil Kings opened the game strong, outshooting the Hurricanes 12-6 in the first and taking a 2-0 lead as a result, with goals from Ty Gerla and Nicholas Bowman.

Ryley Lindgren responded with his 12th of the season for the visitors on the power-play in the second, cutting the Oil Kings lead in half.

The scoring opened up in the third, with the Oil Kings restoring their two goal lead 2:33 into the period. Ryan Bowen pulled the Hurricanes within one midway through the frame, but again the home squad would add to their cushion just two minutes later. Tyler Wong contributed his team leading 21st goal with under three minutes to play, however that’s where the rally would end.

With the loss, the Hurricanes sit second in the Central Division at 18-12-3-2.

As mentioned, the club now has a lengthy break to celebrate the holidays, before resuming the 2016-17 campaign on the road against the Kootenay Ice on December 27.
