LETHBRIDGE – A 20-year old Lethbridge man is in custody and facing a number of charges, in connection with a standoff involving the Lethbridge Police Service Tactical Team Wednesday night (Dec. 28).

Around 8:30 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Fairmont Boulevard South and informed that a subject pointed a firearm at another person in the residence.

The area was contained by patrol units, who attempted to make contact with the subject inside. When the individual refused to communicate, the tactical team was brought in and they continued the effort.

With the individual still refusing to communicate, the tactical team used “less lethal interventions” that resulted in the man and a woman exiting the residence, and both were taken into custody. The woman was later released without charges.

Police say a search of the home then turned up several firearms.

Kyle Lee Toshi Mittens has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, mischief under $5,000, use of a firearm while committing an offence, pointing a firearm and assault.

He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
