MEDICINE HAT – The fireworks came a night early in Medicine Hat, as the Hurricanes and Tigers lit up the scoreboard Friday evening (Dec. 30).

Lethbridge came away with the 9-7 win in their final game of 2016, despite being badly outshot 50-33.

The teams traded goals twice in the first period, with Ryley Lindgren opening the scoring 4:11 into the game on the power-play. The second period was when the Hurricanes did most of their damage, putting up four goals to the Tigers one.

With the game seemingly in hand and a three goal lead with about 10 minutes to play in the contest, the Canes surrendered three goals in just over two minutes, evening things at 6-6.

As has been the case many times this season, Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong would step up, restoring the lead 20 seconds later with his team leading 25th goal of the campaign. That wasn’t quite the end though, as the Tigers once again tied the score at the 15:15 mark of the third. Brett Davis would then prove the hero for Lethbridge, notching his sixth one minute later and Giorgio Estephan would close the scoring with one second left.

With the win, the Hurricanes (20-13-3-2) inched a little closer to the Tigers (27-11-1-0) in the Central Division standings, climbing to within 10-points.

It also has the club starting to roll again, as they have now won two in a row after losing three straight.

The Hurricanes will now have a couple of days off before embarking on a short two game road trip through Saskatchewan, beginning January 3 against Swift Current.
