Hurricanes nail two home wins in a row with a 3-1 defeat of Red Deer

LETHBRIDGE –  The Hurricanes hit the Enmax ice Saturday night with a new face in the line-up and efforts that took the team to a 3-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels.

Shortly after Friday night’s 7-4 win over Edmonton, the Canes’ announced they had acquired d-man Kyle Yewchuck from the Oil Kings.  He joined the Canes, wearing number 7, for the game against Red Deer.

Limited action in the first period saw Jordy Bellerive net a lone goal at the half way mark in the frame, assisted by the two Brennans, Riddle and Menell.

The winning goal came from Tyler Wong early in the second on a power-play.  Red Deer’s Ethan Sakowich answered back two minutes later. But, the Canes were up 2-1 and held the score to the end of the second.

The Rebels kept the Canes on their toes throughout the game, outshooting the home team 45-34. In the last minute of action in the third, Tyler Wong registered his second goal of the night, an empty-netter that provided the Canes with the 3-1 win.

Stuart Skinner took the win for the Canes and became the fourth WHL goalie to reach the 20-win mark this season.   The Hurricanes, who are second in the Central Division at 22-15-3-2, have a three day break before heading to Edmonton for their next game on Jan 11.
