LETHBRIDGE – The words “I have a dream” will loom large over this year’s Greatness in Leadership event at the ENMAX Centre.

The third annual edition of the management development day organized by Teamwork Training will have as a guest speaker Martin Luther King III, the son of the late civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“There’s no bigger inspiration than Martin Luther King Jr., his ‘I Have a Dream’ and the difference-making he did in his lifetime,” explained Ryan Miller, CEO of Teamwork Training. King is himself described as a global humanitarian, and will pose the question, “Are you a difference maker?”

Also headlining the event, on the topic of “Leading by Example,” will be NHL great Mark Messier, who won five Stanley Cup titles with the Edmonton Oilers and a sixth as captain of the New York Rangers.

“Being an Alberta boy, and being a legendary leader, we thought there’s no better person to bring in and share those lessons of leadership, but also share stories of our national game to share stories of Canada’s 150th,” Miller said. One of the overall themes this year is “Milestones,” which also include the 100th anniversary of the NHL and the Stanley Cup’s 125th.

The lineup is rounded out by Bob Black of Edmonton Arena Corp. and Oilers Entertainment Group, Suzanne West, founder and CEO of Imaginea Energy, Ty Bennett, who speaks about partnership, and local country music legend Ron Sakamoto.

The previous two events featured guests such as Wayne Gretzky and astronauts “Buzz” Aldrin and Chris Hadfield.

Tickets for the event are available starting Monday, Jan. 16, which happens to be Martin Luther King Day in the United States.
