Lethbridge Police investigate reports of pellet gun-related property damage

LETHBRIDGE –  There have been more than half a dozen BB or pellet gun-related property damage reports filed in Lethbridge over the last few days.

Staff Sergeant Art Tamminga says vehicles have been the main targets, and the incidents have occurred all over the city, including the Mildred Dobbs and Florence Ho Leong areas on the north side. On the south side, 3rd Street South, Fairmont Park, Gateway Crescent South, and the King’s Crescent area have been hit.

Police believe the culprit or culprits are in a vehicle, and this type of mischief is a new “trend”– something that is very concerning.”It’s taxing for the owner of the vehicle to have the vehicle repaired, especially at this time of year when it’s cold, and they’ve got to get off to work, or do their day to day business. As far as the mischiefs and the motor vehicles, this is kind of a new trend that seems to be going, so we’re just trying to focus on that and see if we can put a stop to it.”

He warns those who might think of doing similar things, that if police get reports of weapons in vehicles or anywhere else for that matter, they will respond accordingly. “We don’t know if it’s real or fake, and so we have to treat each one as if it was real. That being said, if we do get a description or a license plate number of a suspect vehicle or persons who may have a weapon, we are going to treat that as real, so we will take the necessary precautions to make sure the surrounding people are safe and the officers are safe when they conduct a traffic stop on that vehicle.”
