ST. ALBERT – Lethbridge’s Casey Scheidegger made it to the semi-final of the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts over the weekend.

Shannon Kleibrink of Okotoks came away from the event with the provincial title, her fifth as a skip, defeating Val Sweeting in the final 6-4 on Sunday, Jan. 30. Sweeting advanced with a 5-3 win over Scheidegger in Sunday morning’s semi-final. Scheidegger stole one in the ninth end to tie the game, giving up last rock in the 10th to Sweeting.

Scheidegger earned a berth in the semi-final with an 8-5 victory over Geri-Lynn Ramsay in Saturday’s 3-4 page playoff. Scheidegger, whose rink includes Cary-Anne McTaggart, Jessie Scheidegger, and Stephanie Enright, was coming off her first Grand Slam of Curling victory at the Canadian Open earlier in the month.

Two other Lethbridge rinks were in competition. Kalynn Virtue was eliminated by Scheidegger Saturday afternoon in the C Qualifier, by a score of 8-6. On Friday night in the B Qualifier, Virtue eliminated Jodi Marthaller with a 6-2 victory.
