PINCHER CREEK – A 53-year-old man is now charged in connection with a standoff in Pincher Creek.

Dewey “Todd” Starzyk will be in court Tuesday, Feb. 14, charged with careless use of a firearm and failing to comply wtih conditions of a recognizance. He remains in custody.

RCMP say they were called the morning of Feb. 8 to a Pincher Creek home to investigate a report of shots fired. As they approached the home, one round was fired at them. That led to the area, including a nearby high school, being cordoned off for more than eight hours before the situation was resolved.

Nobody was injured in the incident. Classes at local schools were cancelled for the day as a precaution, and town facilities were closed. People were asked to avoid the community during the standoff.
