LETHBRIDGE – Nominations are now open for the second annual Celebrate Downtown awards.

The Heart of Our City Committee started the event last year to commemorate the tenth anniversary of its Heart of Our City master plan. The original five categories have expanded to seven this year, due to the huge success of the first awards:

Back in the Day Award: Contributed to the preservation of downtown Lethbridge;

Champagne Award: Deserves a toast for all they do as an incredible volunteer and champion;

Hip Downtown Transformation Award: Leading a transformation of downtown spaces, business, neighbourhoods, activities and/or events;

Running with the Bulls Award: Takes on great risks and is not scared to challenge the status quo;

Taking Care of Business Award: Committed to taking care of the downtown community, its streetscapes and spaces to build a beautiful downtown;

From the Heart: (NEW) A social change agent who is creating an inclusive downtown;

Downtown Event of The Year: (NEW) Committed to creating a vibrant and inclusive downtown.

“It’s about community. I think so many times we think about what business is doing for our community, which is absolutely fantastic… But so many times it’s the volunteers, who do work day in and day out, who are not recognized on a regular basis,” noted Dawn Leite, Heart of our City member.

“It’s an opportunity to bring those individuals, organizations, non-profits out into the limelight. We can celebrate them… and celebrate the growth in our community.”

Nominations can be submitted online until March 10. The event takes place at 5:00 p.m on May 10 at CASA.
