Free family fishing this weekend

Feb 18, 2017 | 6:19 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Family Day weekend marks one of just two free family fishing weekends this year.

According to http://mywildalberta.com, that means that you don’t need to have a license to enjoy angling in any of the more than 160 stocked ponds, lakes or rivers throughout the province. National Parks are not included.

Free fishing begins today, (Saturday, February 18th) and runs until Monday (February 20th), and most of the stocked areas contained either rainbow trout, brook trout, or cutthroat trout.

In the Lethbridge area here’s where you can sink your line and bait:

Nicholas Sheran Park Pond

Riverstone Pond

Bud Miller Park

Keenex Coulee Reservoir

McVinnie Reservoir

Dillberry Lake

Fishing regulations still apply, and you can find out more here:

The province’s 2nd free fishing weekend takes place July 8th and 9th.

If you’d like to keep fishing after the long weekend, everyone between the ages of 16 and 64 will need a Wildife Identification Number (WIN). To purchase one, you can visit the following site:
