Weekend taxi theft, collision leads to charges against local man
LETHBRIDGE – A number of charges are pending against a local man, after he allegedly stole a taxi and crashed this weekend.
On Sunday (Feb. 19) just before 2 a.m., Lethbridge Police responded to witness reports of a man getting into a taxi and taking off at a high rate of speed, along the 900 block of 2 Avenue South.
Police were then dispatched to a single vehicle collision on the Whoop Up Drive bridge deck shortly after that, where they located the stolen taxi with significant damage. A lone male driver had to be extracted by Fire/EMS, and was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver was displaying signs of impairment, according to a media release. Wesley Blake Eagle Plume, 29, has since been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and impaired driving, with additional charges anticipated.
He is scheduled to appear in court May 16.
