REGINA – The Hurricanes started strong Tuesday night in Regina and didn’t look back. Matt Alfaro had his team on the scoreboard in under four minutes, assisted by Zak Zborosky and Tyler Wong.  The Captain himself lobbed in a shorthanded goal with four minutes remaining in the period, putting the Canes ahead 2-0 at the end of the first.

Captain Tyler Wong struck again, with a power play goal in the opening minute of the second frame. One minute later, the Canes’ Kyle Yewchuk and Regina’s Braydon Buziak were each assessed five minute major for fighting.  That was followed by two minor penalties for the Pats before teammate Dawson Leedahl tallied a goal for his team.

The third period was a succession of minor penalties for both teams, before Jordy Bellerive added to the Canes score, on an assist from Giorgio Estephan.

The win comes in spite of the fact that Regina outshot the Hurricanes 43 to 27.

The game’s three stars included Canes goalie Stuart Skinner, who made 42 saves, Canes’ Captain Tyler Wong who had two goals and an assist, and the Pats’ Dawson Leedahl.

The win puts the Canes at 39-17-4-3 on the season.   On Wednesday night, the Canes will be in Brandon to play the Wheat Kings.
