BRANDON – After a resounding 4-1 win in Regina on Tuesday night, the Hurricanes harvested another win in Brandon on Wednesday.  While the Wheaties have lost both their matches against the Canes so far this year, they managed to hold the game to a tie and force overtime.

The Canes’ Ryan Vanderlis opened the scoring on a power play midway through the first, assisted by Alec Baer and Calen Addison.  After Brandon posted a succession of penalties for high sticking, checking to the head and unsportsmanlike conduct, Tyler Coulter tied the game in the last 40-seconds of the period.

Brandon limited the penalties in the second and at the nine minute mark Nolan Patrick got one through the pipes on an assist from Tyler Coulter.  Roughly five minutes later, Alex Baer scored for the Canes, assisted by Brennan Menell and Calen Addison, to tie the game again.

The two-all tie remained through a scoreless third, in spite of ample opportunity for both teams to add points and the Wheat Kings leading shots-on-goal during the final frame.

The Canes didn’t waste time putting a wrap on the game.  Just 46 seconds into OT, Tyler Wong and Brennan Menell set up Giorgio Estephan who planted the puck in the net, giving the Hurricanes a 3-2 win.

The game’s three stars went to Brandon’s Tyler Coulter, who tallied a goal and an assist, the Cane’s Alec Baer, who also had a goal and an assist, and to Canes’ net minder Stuart Skinner, for his 32 saves,

The win is number 40 for the Canes, who are sitting at 40-17-4-3 on the season. The team continues their five game eastern road trip, with a visit to Prince Albert on Friday night.
