Prince Albert, Sask. – The Raiders were outgunned by one of the hottest teams in the WHL Friday night, falling 5-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes have now won 17 of their last 19 games, and swept the Raiders in the four-game season series. The win is number 41 for the Canes, who are sitting at 41-17-4-3 on the season.

The Hurricanes were 3-6 on the power play. The Raiders were 0-6, which included a 1:34 two-man advantage in a key situation, down 4-2 in the third period.

Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid was disappointed not just in the special team’s performance, but the fact they couldn’t recreate their effort in Wednesday’s 6-5 overtime defeat to the Medicine Hat Tigers.

“I didn’t like our game at all. As great as we played against Medicine Hat I didn’t like our game,” Habscheid said. “I thought against Medicine Hat, it was one of our best team games as a group. I thought tonight, we just played like a bunch of individuals. We got what we deserved tonight.”

The Hurricanes’ first three goals were not in 5-on-5 situations. Their first two goals were on the power play, as Matt Alfaro and Zak Zborosky both scored in the first period to give the Hurricanes an early 2-0 advantage.

In a 4-on-4 situation, Hurricanes’ Egor Babenko tapped in for birdie after a great set up from Alfaro to restore the Hurricanes’ two-goal advantage.

Raiders’ defenceman Max Martin answered quickly and made it a 3-2 game heading into the third period. Zack Hayes got the lone assist on the goal, and now has an assist in his last three games.

Canes Captain Tyler Wong made it a 4-2 game moments after they killed off a penalty, for his league-leading 48th goal of the year.

The Raiders had ample chances to get back into the game, including the aforementioned 1:34 5-on-3 power play, but couldn’t take advantage. Alfaro got his second of the game late on the man advantage.

The Hurricanes wrap up thier eastern road trip in Saskatoon on Saturday night.
