LAS VEGAS – A former member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes has become the first player to ever join the NHL’s newest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights.

The announcement was made on the Golden Knight’s Twitter page Monday (March 6), saying they signed the free agent centre — who currently plays for the Brandon Wheat Kings — to a three-year entry level contract.

Duke played parts of four seasons with the Hurricanes — posting 70-points in 184 games — before being dealt to Brandon for Kord Pankewicz, Brett Kitt and Ryley Lindgren in October of 2014. He leads the Wheat Kings in scoring this season with 67-points in 54 games.

“When we project Reid, we think his game will evolve as he become a pro. We believe he’s going to be an NHL player,” said Golden Knight’s Assistant General Manager, Kelly McCrimmon, on the team’s Twitter account.
