LETHBRIDGE –  The Lethbridge College was on the receiving end Friday, as it accepted funding for an energy efficiency project at the Farm Stewardship Centre.

Environment Minister Shannon Phillips announced $54,000 from the Climate Leadership Plan would be used to install a 15-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system and upgraded lighting at the Centre. The end result would be energy savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

“The government is leading by example, finding opportunities to save money and reduce emissions through energy efficiency. Renewable energy technologies such as solar PV along with efficient retrofits will create new and diverse job opportunities for Albertans,” stated Phillips.

The Farm Stewardship Centre conducts research on agricultural practices and monitors environmental impacts.  Engineers and technologists work to develop, support and deliver the province’s On-Farm Energy Efficiency and On-Farm Solar PV Programs which fund energy-efficiency improvements and solar panels on Alberta farms.
