Woman suffers serious injuries from early morning assault, police investigating

LETHBRIDGE – Police are investigating after a 38-year old woman was assaulted early Saturday (Mar. 18) morning.

The victim reported that she was attacked by an unknown male around 3:13 a.m., along 6 Avenue South near the Civic Centre. She says the suspect solicited her for sex and then assaulted her when she refused. She managed to escape, running into traffic along 6 Avenue. A taxi stopped and took her to the police station right away.

EMS were called and the woman was taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital with serious head and facial injuries. She has since been released.

Lethbridge Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’9” tall, 160-pounds, with short brush cut style hair and a heavy accent. He was wearing a white or cream-coloured hoodie and possibly jeans.
