LETHBRIDGE – The Alberta SPCA has confirmed that Lethbridge Animal Services assisted them in removing an estimated 100 dogs from a home in Lethbridge.

Roland Lines, Communications Manager with the Alberta SPCA, told Lethbridge News Now that it started with a call from a member of the public.

“The dogs were all inside the house, and just based on their preliminary observations, our officer determined that the dogs needed to be removed from the property,” stated Lines. He later revealed in a media release that the dogs were running loose in the building, noting that their personnel wore protective clothing during the operation.

“The vast majority are small breed dogs,” he continued. “We have a veterinarian coming to assess the animals, we don’t have details on their condition at this time.”

Lines did note that the resident was cooperating with their officers, but did not reveal the individual’s identity or the location of the home.

The dogs are now being cared for at the Lethbridge Animal Shelter, in a sterile and separate room from other animals.

In a release from the City of Lethbridge, they noted that while people may want to donate pet supplies or their time, shelter staff are focusing their efforts on taking care of the dogs and are not prepared to coordinate and administer donations.
