LETHBRIDGE – A 26-year old Lethbridge man has admitted to a charge of possession of child pornography, avoiding the preliminary inquiry that was scheduled to begin Tuesday morning (Mar. 28), to determine if the case would go to trial.

John Tulloch was charged in June of 2016, as part of the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Storm 3 Operation, focused on targeting individuals that were sharing photos or videos on peer-to-peer networks.

Tulloch in particular was found when an ICE detective started investigating a file sharing network called Gnutella. He found a user was in possession of child pornography, and tracked their IP address to a home in Lethbridge. A search of the home resulted in the seizure of numerous electronic devices and Tulloch’s arrest.

While examining the electronics, police found 12,957 images of child porn and 250 videos.

As part of Tulloch’s guilty plea, it was noted that the offence dates range between Dec. 17, 2008 and Apr. 12, 2016.

After the facts were read out, the defence asked that a pre-sentence report be ordered for Tulloch. The report will look into his history to determine if there are extenuating circumstances, while also exploring what his treatment needs might be while in custody and his risk of re-offending after his release.

Sentencing has been set for June 28.
