LETHBRIDGE – They already have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, and now Lethbridge College has joined Snapchat.

It’s a mobile app that allows a user to send pictures, messages and video with or without a variety of filters– that self destruct after a short period of time.

Jamin Heller is part of a student group that helped set it all up. He  says it’s a useful tool for communicating with students.

“It was kind of a resources thing. We wanted to focus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but we realized so many of our students are on Snapchat, an we want to engage with them that way. So it was the right time to introduce it and put some resources toward it.”

Heller says there are a number of ways they will use the app, which boasts more than 150 million daily users.

“We’re going to use it to post stories… so photos and videos that are going to be up on our story for 24 hours. It’s a great way to let students know what’s happening on campus; if there are events at Centre Core, free food.”

He says they’ll also use it for fun things like scavenger hunts and giving away prizes.

You can find the college at “lethcollege” on the Snapchat app.
