LETHBRIDGE – A 53-year old man charged in connection with a standoff with the RCMP in Pincher Creek last February, has had his original bail revoked and a new application denied.

Dewey Todd Starzyk was originally released on bail Feb. 15 – one week after the alleged incident, which lasted eight hours and prompted authorities to bring in a negotiator, a number of heavily armed officers, an armoured vehicle and a helicopter.

He was then taken back into custody on Apr. 1 at a home in Coleman, with police saying they were acting on information from a member of the public, regarding an incident that occurred in the first week of February – before the standoff.

Starzyk was subsequently charged with robbery with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon while committing an offence, uttering death threats and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He also pleaded guilty just last week to breaching his original bail conditions with a curfew violation and possession of a controlled substance, in relation to a traffic stop on Mar. 3.

After having his new application for bail denied by the judge, the matter was adjourned back to Pincher Creek Provincial Court on May 16.
