SOUTHERN ALBERTA – RCMP are asking those driving in southern Alberta on Saturday (May 6) to be extra careful as the annual highway clean up gets underway.

An estimated 12,000 participants are expected from 4-H clubs, Junior Forest Rangers and other youth groups from across the province.

They will work with Alberta Transportation to collect garbage and recyclables from ditches and roads in the Medicine Hat, Brooks, Taber, Bow Island, Foremost, Cardston, Vulcan, Pincher Creek, Claresholm and Lethbridge regions.

“With warm weather in the forecast, we expect to see lots of traffic this weekend,” said RCMP Corporal Curtis Peters in a media release. “We are asking motorists to slow down, obey signage and be alert to help ensure the safety of the participants who are out keeping Alberta clean.”
