Boy rescued from river in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT – A 13-year-old boy is safe, after being swept away by the South Saskatchewan River the evening of Tuesday, May 10.

According to a police news release, the Medicine Hat Police Service was dispatched to the river valley of the Ranchlands area after the boy was swept away by the current, while playing on the river bank with two other boys.

After the teenager was carried downstream about 300 metres, he was able to get onto a small island that was in the middle of the water. The Medicine Hat Fire Department deployed their jet boat to reach him, successfully getting the boy off the island.

He did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
