Lethbridge man charged with animal neglect for 101 dogs seized in March

LETHBRIDGE – The Alberta SPCA has laid two animal neglect charges against a Lethbridge man who had 101 dogs seized from his home.
 
David Michael Petiot, 61, of Lethbridge is charged with causing or permitting dogs in his care to be in distress, and with failing to provide adequate care for wounded or ill dogs.
 
He’s expected to make his first appearance in Lethbridge Provincial Court on July 10.
 
On March 24, two Alberta SPCA peace officer, with help from the City of Lethbridge animal services, removed 101 dogs from a home in the Varsity Village neighbourhood on the city’s west side. The dogs were held at the local animal shelter while in SPCA protective custody. Three puppies were born during that holding period.
 
All 104 animals were surrendered by Petiot on March 30.
 
Ownership was transferred to Lethbridge animal services and the Calgary Humane Society, which took over their ongoing care until they could be made available for adoption.
