LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Food Bank is showing off its new renovations and also hoping the redesign of the facility can help more people.

Food Bank Executive Director Maral Kiani Tari says they were able to make a number of important improvments from the community grants.

“The renovation allowed us to have a bigger warehouse, to be able to store more food to help more clients. We’ve managed to open up our front client area to serve more clients at the same time; to be able to allow for six clients to use the services at the same time. It also allowed us to create a privacy room in the front for clients who are feeling a little less comfortable being in front of the front counter.”

The administrative space has also been expanded to allow for more workshops and training sessions.

Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman attended the Food Bank’s open house recently, and said the renovations are impressive.

“They’ve laid it out in a very functional way. It’s really important to be efficient in delivery of services. We’re depending on volunteers for the most part to deliver those services to people in need, so we need to take a thoughtful approach to the building layout and how we’re going to serve citizens.”
Kaini Tari says in 2015, abou 500 households used the Food Bank, and today more than 700 households do so.

“We don’t send anyone away. So if the community needs us, we’ll make it work.”

Clients can get hampers from the Lethbridge Food Bank once a month, and also get fresh fruit, veggies and bread twice a week.
