LETHBRIDGE – One person has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries, following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 5, just south of Highway 508 and the Lethbridge Airport.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry has told Lethbridge News Now that the collision happened around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday (May 16). He stated that it involved a south-bound semi and north-bound pick-up truck, and that it appears they collided in the south-bound lane.
The driver of the pick-up – identified only as a male in his mid-fifties and the lone occupant of the vehicle – suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle before being transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Henry noted that the driver of the semi was shaken up, but didn’t sustain any physical injuries.
At this time, there’s no indication as to what caused the collision.
Highway 5 has since reopened.
