Alberta predicted to lead economic growth in 2017

OTTAWA – Alberta’s economy appears to be getting back on track, according to the latest provincial outlook from the Conference Board of Canada.

The spring 2017 report predicts Alberta will lead the country this year with 3.3 per cent growth in real gross domestic product. It credits new capacity coming online in non-conventional oil production.

Manufacturing growth and the rebuild in Fort McMurray will also contribute, as the outlook forecasts growth in labour markets, consumer demand, and housing.

The Conference Board cautions, however, that the turnaround in the resource sector will take time, and overall business investment remains weak and could impact all provinces in the future.
