Whoop-Up Drive pedestrian fatality
LETHBRIDGE – Police continued to investigate after a woman was struck and killed by a minivan on Whoop-Up Drive in an early-morning collision.
It happened around 3:45 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in the middle eastbound lane of Whoop-Up. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries. The 70-year-old woman driving the minivan was not hurt.
Investigators said there was evidence to suggest the victim had been drinking. There was nothing to suggest alcohol was a factor on the part of the driver, and speed was also ruled out.
The eastbound lanes of Whoop-Up Drive were closed for more than two hours, forcing traffic to use Crowsnest Trail to get across the river until the closure was lifted at approximately 6:20 a.m.
