Stephen Harper to headline Opportunity South

Jun 9, 2017 | 12:18 PM

LETHBRIDGE — Former prime minister Stephen Harper will discuss international trade at the second annual Opportunity South conference in Lethbridge.

Harper is headlining the two-day event at Lethbridge Lodge, organized by the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce. President Harry Gross says it came together surprisingly quickly.

“The intent is to make people realize, here’s a time that we can come to southern Alberta to understand the opportunities, to connect with different business people from different cultures and countries,” Gross said at a news conference Friday, June 9.

Other speakers include Ron Buist, the former head of marketing for Tim Hortons who is credited with creating the “Roll Up the Rim to Win” contest;  futurist Richard Worzel; and team-building expert Lorne Robis.

“To have the (former) marketing director from Tim Hortons come down to us and talk about marketing potential I think is fabulous. And Mr. Worzel, who’s one of the leading futurists, talking about economic trends and business impact,” he said.

“And then, Mr. Robis, who talks about team-building, currently, I believe, working with ATB and talking about their team-building environment, what’s involved. Those are day-to-day things that we struggle with.”

The Chamber of Commerce is selling 400 tickets to the event starting Friday. The event is October 3 and 4 at Lethbridge Lodge and will also include a municipal election forum that is open to the public.
