Lethbridge rally car team makes first ever national podium finish

LETHBRIDGE – Rally car driver Nick Spencer and his partner Peter Brook are rising up the ranks of national racing champions with a huge win at the Rocky Mountain Rally in Invermere recently.

Spencer says it’s an amazing accomplishment, because his car actually broke down during the first day of races. But after the second day, he and his partner caught up, and kept their lead.

“We finished 1st in Production Class and 3rd overall, which was our very first national overall podium.”

He says another team had the lead for some time, but after an accident, they were able to make up the time and take over.

“They had some bad luck on the very last day and broke some suspension- went into the ditch pretty hard, so… they were dominating the rally all day and overall… and ended up breaking. It opened up the door for the rest of us and we snuck in there by 17 or 20 seconds for a good tight hold onto 3rd place. It was pretty amazing.”

The next race for Spencer and Brook takes place at the end of June, called the “Rallye Baie Des Chaleurs” in New Richmond, Quebec.
