Shakespeare in the Park gearing up for another summer of shows

Jun 25, 2017 | 10:56 AM

LETHBRIDGE – It’s been 20 years of performances, and Lethbridge’s Shakespeare in the Park acting troupe is still going strong.

The cast of 17 and crew of 10 are nearly ready to take their rendition of A Comedy of Errors to the stage. Stephanie Savage, stage manager, says their show — directed by Ron Chambers — consists of a number of different Shakespeare plays “all smushed together” into one high energy cowboy comedy.

“It’s a group of people that come together year after year to give kids and adults in the community the opportunity to do art… It’s just a good time for people to come out and see,” Savage told Lethbridge News Now.

Savage noted that the group has been running rehearsals for the past two months in preparation, with students from the University of Lethbridge and local high schools joining in. With all of the costume and set work too, she added with a laugh that it’s been an “insane amount of work.”

Shakespeare in the Park runs on donations. All performances are free for the public to attend.

A Comedy of Errors debuts on June 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Galt Gardens, with shows running every Thursday and Friday night until the second week of August. A full schedule is listed above.
