It wasn’t your imagination – it was a quake

LETHBRIDGE –  If you’re a night owl you may have been awake to feel some heavy shaking around 12:30 Wednesday night.  For those who have been through it before there was no mistaking the trembling of an earthquake.

It didn’t take long for social media to spring to action with questions – “Was that what I think it was?” or “Did I just feel an earthquake, or am I just imagining it?”

Earthquaketrack.com confirmed what most suspected.  A quake measuring 5.8 was registered at a four kilometer depth just outside Lincoln, Montana around 12:30.  The trembler was felt from Lethbridge up to Calgary and many points in between, as well as west to Seattle. Several aftershocks could also be felt in sporadic locations in the half hour afterwards.

It turns out, that wasn’t the first earthquake around Lincoln.  There was a 2.3 magnitude quake in the same location earlier in the day, as well as several others which have built in magnitude over the past month.
