Alumni to gather, play, and remember fallen teammates

Jul 15, 2017 | 6:11 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Alumni of three baseball programs will get together, play some ball, and share some memories of Tanner Craswell and Mitch MacLean.

Lethbridge Bulls, Prairie Baseball Academy, and Vauxhall Baseball Academy alumni will be part of the annual TCMM Memorial game and home run derby Saturday, July 15. It’s in remembrance of Craswell and MacLean, two members of the Bulls who were shot to death along with a third person when they were on their way to fly home to Prince Edward Island in December, 2011.

“Each year for the memorial alumni game we get everybody to come out. We try to raise a few funds for the TCMM Memorial Scholarship Fund. And we also just use it as an opportunity for any of the alumni who knew Cras and Mitch, gives them an opportunity to kind of remember them,” explained Torey Scott, marketing coordinator for the Bulls.

Scott said it’s also a way to help young ball players through a scholarship fund.

“That fund is used to help a few baseball players each year throughout southern Alberta, mainly through Prairie Baseball Academy and Vauxhall, get their scholarship to help them extend to the next level,” Scott added. “The thought process behind it is basically to go towards a hard-working individual that just needs a little bit of help to play at the next level.”

The evening begins with batting practice at 4 p.m, followed by the Home Run Derby at 6 and the game to follow.
