LETHBRIDGE – A two day trial has been set for one of the women accused of leaving their children locked in a freezing car last December.

The judge in the case has set December 11 and 12, 2017, as the dates – nearly one year to the day after the kids were found huddled in a vehicle parked along the 200 block of 5 Street South.

The woman can’t be named to protect the identity of the children, but she is facing a charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life.

A co-accused, also charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life in the matter, has had her case adjourned until August 8.

Around 11:30 on the night of Dec. 15, 2016, Lethbridge Police responded to a report of a child crying inside a vehicle.

Officers arrived to find a toddler in a car seat who was crying, shivering and in distress.

When they broke a window to gain entry, they found a second child under a pile of clothes.

Both children — ages three and four — were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but were uninjured.

The women were located inside a nearby bar, and police believe the children were left unattended for more than an hour.

At the time, the temperature was -18 C.
