LETHBRIDGE – An early 3-0 lead wasn’t enough for the Lethbridge Bulls.

The Bulls got on the board in the first inning and failed to score again, losing 6-3 to the Medicine Hat Mavericks Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Spitz Stadium. The best-of-five series is now tied 1-1.

Things looked good early on for the Bulls. Jesse Hilyard doubled in the first inning to drive home Darius Carter and Blake MacDonald. That was followed by a Dylan Flasch double which drove in run by Alex Bishop.

But that was all the scoring Lethbridge could muster, managing just six hits total. Starting picher Greg Hollman allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings for the loss. Relievers Hunter Cunningham and Chris Stodolka each gave up an additional run.

The best-of-five series now moves to Medicine Hat for games three and four, Thursday, Aug. 3 and Friday, Aug. 4. If necessary, game five will be in Lethbridge Saturday, Aug. 5.

All four playoff series around the league are now tied 1-1. Edmonton upset Okotoks 2-1. Moose Jaw edged defending champion Swift Current 6-5. And Regina downed Weyburn 6-2.
