Aug 20, 2017 | 7:19 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Stage 1 of the Metis Trail is now open to the public, according to the City of Lethbridge.

The area extends from Jerry Potts Boulevard West, to Caledonia Boulevard West.

It includes a new section of Caledonia Boulevard into the Crossings area, between Metis Trail and Aquitania Boulevard West and includes pathways that will give alternative access for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists to the Crossings and Copperwood areas in west Lethbridge.

The pathway areas along Stage 1 will be opening this week (August 21-26), once all of the landscaping is completed.

The second section of Metis Trail, from Caledonia Boulevard West to Whoop-Up Drive is ahead of schedule, and should be open before the end of September 2017.

When all of Metis Trail is finished, weather permitting, in September 2018, new sections will go from Whoop-Up Drive North, to Walsh Drive and will provide a much needed alternative north-south traffic corridor to relieve congestion on the Whoop-Up Drive/University Drive corridor in west Lethbridge.
