Hurricanes drop pre-season opener, head to Taber for rematch against the Tigers tonight

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes dropped their exhibition season opener 4-2 against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

Defenceman Brady Pouteau opened the scoring on the power play for the Hurricanes in the first period, but the Tigers struck for four straight goals in the second and the third.

Giorgio Estephan added a goal late in the third period.

Starting goaltender Stuart Skinner played the whole game, and made 39 saves on 43 shots in the loss.

Spots on the Hurricanes roster will be earned, according to head coach Brent Kisio who says guys must be better moving forward.

Hurricanes players will get their chance to rebound tonight, when Lethbridge and Medicine Hat do battle again. The two teams head to Taber tonight, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. at the Community Centre.

After tonight, Lethbridge will play three more pre-season games.

A home and home against the Swift Current Broncos on Sept. 8th and 10th, and a trip to Crowsnest Pass to battle the Kootenay Ice on Sept. 15th.

The Hurricanes open the regular season on Sept. 22nd at home against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
