New roundabout on Whoop-Up Drive opens to traffic

LETHBRIDGE – A major intersection on the city’s west side has reopened, with a new look.

The new roundabout is complete at Whoop-Up Drive and Metis Trail, and is open as of Monday, Sept. 11. The intersection was converted as part of the Metis Trail extension and twinning of Whoop-Up Drive.

The completion of the roundabout means Metis Trail is open again between Whoop-Up and Coalbanks Link, as well as newly-twinned sections of Whoop-Up. Later in September, the new section of Metis Trail north to Garry Drive is expected to be finished.

The roundabout is of the larger multi-lane style, and functions similar to the one at Garry Drive and Squamish Boulevard.
