PINCHER CREEK – More people are going home, as the threat eases from the still-out-of-control Kenow fire.

The M.D. of Pincher Creek partially rescinded its evacuation order Thursday, Sept. 14, which includes the Castle Mountain Resort. However, it remains in effect for the area south of Oil Basin Road (Township Road 3-2) to Waterton Lakes National Park, affecting 28 residential properties. People in this area are still being allowed access to their property two hours at a time.

People have started to return to the Twin Butte area. The M.D. said it gave out approximately 60 re-entry information packages. It is also reminding people in this area that it remains under an evacuation alert, and they should still be prepared to leave on short notice. A bin has been placed near the Twin Butte Community Hall for residents to dispose of spoiled food.

Earlier Thursday Cardston County rescinded its evacuation order, and began handing out re-entry information packages to affected residents as well.

As of the last update Thursday the Kenow fire that swept through Waterton Lakes National Park and into adjacent areas was still considered out-of-control, burning 36,000 hectares, but was not expected to grow.

The park remains closed.
