LETHBRIDGE  “Somewhere, the hurting must stop.” — Terry Fox

The Terry Fox Run marks it’s 37th anniversary On Sunday (Sept 17), with the local event taking place at Henderson Lake.

Registration opens at 11 o’clock Sunday morning at the Kiwanis Picnic Shelter, with the run itself going from noon to 2:30.

“82-cents of every dollar we earn goes into cancer research,” explained local run chairperson Evelyn Moman.  “Right now, there’s a project underway, and it’s actually in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal – they’ve spent $750 Million for cancer research since 1980.”

“I’m not a dreamer, and I’m not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles. I have to.”  Terry Fox

Sunday’s run will include a two, five or 10-kilometre route and the location is accessible to bicycles, wheelchairs, rollerblades, and dogs.

Moman, herself, has dealt with cancer.

“My mother died of breast Cancer, my husband is a survivor of colon cancer, so, you know, it has touched me several times over and over, and it is something that I know I can pay forward, by working the Cancer Society.”

If it isn’t your immediate family, we all have friends and co-workers who are battling some form of cancer.

“I don’t feel that this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning. It’ll inspire more people. I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.” Terry Fox

More information on the Lethbridge run can be found on the local Terry Fox Foundation website.

“It took cancer to realize that being self-centered is not the way to live. The answer is to try and help others.” Terry Fox
