Walking A Mile In Her Shoes isn’t as easy as it looks

Sep 22, 2017 | 1:34 PM

LETHBRIDGE –  Dozens of men squeezed their feet into hot pink, silver, red and black heels Friday afternoon (Sept. 22) so they could walk 1.5 times around Galt Gardens for a good cause.

Teams from Shoppers Drug Mart, Reeves College, BNI Wize Guys, Puroclean Property Paramedics, and many others, all teetered and tottered their way around the park to raise money for The Lethbridge  and District YWCA’s annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event.

The money raised goes towards helping women and children who need help breaking the cycle of family violence.

Mayor Chris Spearman also attended the event, saying last weekend’s homicide in broad daylight on 6 Avenue South of a 48-year old woman at the hands of a man she knew, was just another example of why events like this one were needed.

Every year, the YWCA’s Harbour House Shelter, and its crisis line get 7,500 information calls and 1,750 crisis calls.

Support is also given to more than 200 women on a drop-in basis, and the 30-bed unit is frequently full.
