Hurricanes lose close game on the road to Edmonton Oil Kings

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes lost their second game of the season, 7-6 to the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night.

The ‘Canes were off to a good start, as Dylan Cozens opened the scoring at 2:12 in the first, on a power play; Captain Georgio Estephan and Calen Addison with the helpers.

Nick Bowman responded with his first goal of the game for the Oil Kings at 15:50 of the first. A second goal followed for Edmonton on a power play at 7:30 of the second period. Nick Bowman struck again for the Oil Kings at 11:16.

The Canes responded with two more goals in the second period by Shawn Harke at 11:21 and Igor Merezhko at 16:32.

The third period opened with Cozens and Jordy Bellerive netting the 4th and fifth goals of the night for the ‘Canes, but they came up short.

The Oil Kings scored three more goals at 14:38, 16:04 and 17:38 of the third, while the final Hurricanes goal by Jack Flaman came just before the end of the period at 19:50.

Goalie Stuart Skinner faced 35 shots on the night, compared to 31 the ‘Canes managed  on  Edmonton net. The Canes found themselves shorthanded 9 times, and giving up two goals.

This brings the Hurricane’s record to 1-2-0-0 on the season so far. The two teams play again Saturday night in Lethbridge at the Enmax Centre. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
